Toyota has made the RAV4 family a bit more interesting by introducing the trim GR Sport. As you may well have guessed, this finish is inspired by that of the Toyota Gazoo Racing models, the sportiest of the family. Following in the footsteps of the Yaris, Yaris Cross, Corolla, C-HR and Hilux models, the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport It features cosmetic upgrades inside and out, as well as some modest mechanical upgrades. It is already available from 50,600 euros in Spain, although there are versions that will take time to arrive.
In the exterior area, a new finish has the wheel arch moldings painted in a tone piano black, like the rest of the lower section of the bodywork. Likewise, the plastic bezel of the fog lights sports the same finish, as the grille. To differentiate the HEV version from the PHEV version, in addition to the matching badges, we can take a look at the lower edge of the bumpers, in dark silver appearance in the first, and metallic gray in the second. .
Further distinguishing it from the rest of the range are the 19-inch five-twin-spoke wheels, in glossy black of course, and spiced up with machined striping, the color of which was obtained by using a new ultra-precise line-cutting technique, according to Toyota. The front grille and tailgate are decorated with the discreet “GR” logos. And like other models in the RAV4 range, the GR Sport is exclusively associated with a black-tinted roof along with the mirror housings.
Opening the door, we can see a game of leatherette-trimmed front sport seats, with some parts simulating a suede or suede effect. Black-on-black “GR” logos are etched into the headrests of the headrests, and silver stitching provides some contrast. As a top level in the range, these seats come with electric adjustment and memory function for the driver’s seat. Both the steering wheel and the floor mats have been “improved” by the same “GR” emblem.
Regarding the provision of equipment, Toyota mentions the infotainment system made up of the 10.5 inch touch screena 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic view monitor and the brand’s suite of driver assistance assists (Toyota Safety Sense)with plenty of safety gizmos, including new emergency steering assist and an improved pre-crash braking system, along with well-known ones like the reversing camera.
Last but not least, under the skin of the Toyota RAV4 GR Sport we find a set of firmer springs and retuned dampers, giving the compact SUV “a more engaging driving experience.” Available with either of the two engines now on sale (HEV or PHEV), and the AWD-i system (intelligent all-wheel drive), although for the moment it is only available in hybrid format. The RAV4 GR Sport PHEV will be available from 2024.
