If Citroën has always stood out for something, it is for offering technical solutions that are different from the rest of the industry. His creativity has been able to take the brand to the technological forefront in the 20th century, with engineering elements that were a delight and vehicles whose bodywork accompanied that singularity. A great exponent of all that I am saying was the CX, model launched in 1974 and that it had innumerable special characteristics.
And what if we put those features in a modern vehicle?
This is exactly what the Chinese YouTube channel called “Bai Ning’s car time” did, which documented the work of conversion of a Citroën C5X into a retro-futuristic model, completely inspired by the CX.
The first thing that was changed in the crossover is the ground clearance. For that an air suspension was installed, which won’t be the original flagship hydropneumatic suspension, but it’s pretty close. With this modification, the vehicle can now raise and lower the ride height by approximately 100mm.
outside, the wheel arches were changed for body-colored pieces, fairing the rear wheels as in the original model and applying chrome to the lower body and bumpers. This chrome is also repeated on the wing mirrors, door handles and window surrounds, just like the original CX. Another important change is the new wheels, solid and shiny.
Inside we have new upholstery, making use of beige leather for the seats and door frames and brown trim for the dashboard, achieving a color palette like the original model. Added to this are details in Alcantara and orange suede for the roof and pillars, quite an experience.
Unfortunately, this retro-futuristic project is made by an individual, and it seems that it will not be offered as a customization kit, although perhaps it can give some ideas to anyone who owns a Citroën. Watch the videos to know it in detail.
