Anfac brings us up to date on the new vehicle market with the data referring to last February. After the first two months of 2023, we are already approaching 140,000 units sold.
During the past month, 74,001 registered new passenger car sales, according to data from the Spanish manufacturers’ association, which translates into an increase of 19.2% compared to the same month in 2022. We are talking about the second consecutive month of growth, and as reported by experts, this growth is mainly due to to two factors: the improvement in the supply chain and the restoration of a large part of vehicle production. Thus, in the year to date, 138,039 units are already reached (32.1% more than the previous year but still 24% less than in the pre-pandemic period.)
It also continues to improve average number of emissions of passenger cars leaving dealerships. In February it stayed at 118.8 grams of CO2 per kilometer traveled; therefore, they are almost 1% lower than those of February 2022.
As to channels, that of individuals managed to increase by 8.6% (up to 32,463 units); that of companies did the same in 12.9% (32,041 units) and that of rent a car It was the one that registered the highest increase with 148.9% (almost 9,500 units), although it should be noted that last year there was practically no availability of cars to buy.
Plug-in vehicles don’t take off
Electrification continues slowly In our country. Only one in 10 purchases has corresponded to a plug-in model (PHEV or 100% electric): in February 2023 they increase by 33% to 9,072 units, a figure that is still far from the European average.
«February continues with the upward path with which we began the year. Growing is always positive, but when compared to the data for February 2020, when we were still unaware of the pandemic, it still places us a long way off. In that February, 98,221 units were registered, so we still have a monthly market that loses more than 20,000 sales in comparison. The parts supply chain continues to improve which benefits the improvement, but we still have logistics bottlenecks. In the same way, prices are not helping, with inflation continuing to rise, although in a more contained manner. For this reason, the sector insists that if the aid for the purchase of electrified vehicles were direct and not subsidies, it would help to promote the market as a whole and even more so the low and zero emissions market, which contributes, to a great extent, to rejuvenating a park. mobile that flirts with being 14 years old”, says Félix García, DirCom of Anfac.
