One of the most famous events in the industry is the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) Show that takes place every year in Las Vegas.
Although in recent months several manufacturers have announced that they will not actively participate this year, largely due to the focus on electrification. The SEMA Show is the automotive industry’s largest aftermarket gear, customization and modification event. and as such, it is a fact that we will see deeply modified and very spectacular cars.
Nissan is one of the brands that will actively participate this year. One of the most interesting projects presented is the Nissan Sunny LEAF Project, which precisely addresses the topic of electrification.
What’s happening?
Nissan and Tommy Pike Customs (TMC) which is based in South Carolina, USA present the Sunny LEAF Project, where a 1987 Nissan Pick Up was transformed into an electric vehicle taking advantage of the brand’s electric LEAF components.
Then, the 4-cylinder engine was replaced by an electric powertrain consisting of a 40kWh lithium-ion battery and a 147-hp, 236-lb-ft electric motorwhich to be honest, does not seem like a power figure worth scaring anyone, but if we consider that it has almost double the power and triple the torque compared to the original mechanics, we will see that the Sunny LEAF Project should be quite fun .
Additionally, the model is a right-hand drive, it received aesthetic modifications that give it an appearance very similar to the first GT-R, while the decoration is with the mythical colors of BRE (Brock Racing Enterprises), which reinforces the link with Nissan’s successful motorsport story in our neighboring country to the north.
The list of modifications also includes:
- The electric motor is coupled to the original 56th manual transmission.
- Wide body kit inspired by the iconic Hakosuka (the first Skyline GT-R 1969 – 1972)
- Gimbal made especially for this unit
- Lighting conversion to LED
- Heavy duty rear suspension and shock absorbers
- Adaptation of front suspension, springs, control arms and disc brake system from a Nissan 240SX S13
- 17” Rotiform wheels
- Toyo Extensa tires 204/45/R17
- Cabin lined with Laedana, a fiber that has a touch like nappa leather, but does not come from an animal and is produced without using toxic or environmentally harmful materials.
- Screen with a unique interface designed by Clemson University
