Is Mercedes ahead of Aston Martin? Reply Mike Krack

Mercedes was the great surprise of Montmeló. The two pilots of him, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, they finished on the podium ahead of Checo Pérez’s Red Bull. Far left the two Aston Martin: sixth was Lance Stroll and seventh, Fernando Alonso. And the big question is whether the silver arrows are ahead in performance.

Mike Krack, head of Aston Martin, has responded about it and has been very clear. Trust that it is not. “No I dont think so…”said the one from the green team despite having lost second place in the constructors’ world championship.

“Because when we look at the end of the race, when we put the hard tires on we were in the fight again compared to the pace of our rivals”, said Krack.

They still don’t understand why this drop in performance: “We have to really understand what happened. The sky clouded over very quickly, it went from very sunny to cloudy and we thought that would help the soft tyres, but it didn’t. We have to understand why we had that difference in competitiveness between the different moments of the race”.

“It’s too early or too easy to say, because we didn’t see a complete picture in qualifying either. It’s the same as at the beginning of the year, when we said that we needed three races to see where we really were, I think it’s the same”, Krack has detailed in these statements.

Of course, the Aston Martin recognizes that perhaps the improvements of Mercedes may be more powerful than yours: “It could be that others have taken a bigger step than us, it could be. But our analysis so far has not reflected that.”

After the Spanish GP, the constructors’ world championship dictates its sentence: Mercedes has 152 points and Aston Martin, 134. It is the first time that the silver arrows are placed in front.

Improvements for Canada

It will be the next Grand Prix that Aston Martin has marked in red on the calendar, that of Canada. The most important improvements of the season will arrive in that circuit. And Alonso launched the ‘pullita’ for the rivals. “We will crush them…”said the two-time Formula 1 champion with a smile.

In two weeks Aston Martin has to put everything on the table. It will be their test for Lawrence Stroll’s team. Alonso’s 33rd win or assume Mercedes is faster?
