Cupra’s first model as an independent brand was the Cupra Ateca. It hit the market in 2019 with a very powerful version, the 2.0 TSI with 300 hp and all-wheel drive, being a very convincing vehicle, as we saw in our test. Shortly after the model had an update, in 2020, where nothing was changed in the mechanical section. Now the strategy of the Seat León and Formentor is copied, adding new engines, the 1.5 TSI of 150 CV and the 2.0 TSI of 190 CV.
These mechanics (both with the DGT C label) are associated with the 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The access mechanics is front-wheel drive, the 190 CV has all-wheel drive like the 300 CV VZ. For now
Although the novelties in the range of engines are the most outstanding, the compact SUV also debuts other aesthetic details, such as a new rear diffuser and an interior with contrasting stitching in copper and different inserts in the door panels.
It remains to be seen if these mechanics disappear from the range of the Seat Ateca, as has happened in the case of the Leon. It would make sense and possibly happen with an update of the model. The access version (which hits the market in the third quarter) does not yet have a price, but the Cupra Ateca 2.0 TSI 190 does, which costs €45,760, about 10,000 euros less than the top of the range of 300 CV. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds, with a top speed of 212 km/h and an approved consumption of 7.7 l/100km.
As standard it has 19-inch alloy wheels, LED optics, fog lights, dynamic turn signals, tinted rear windows, sports seats, keyless access and start, multimedia system with browser compatible with Apple Carplay and Android Auto… as well as aids to the driving such as adaptive cruise control, pre-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detector, slope assistant… Elements such as the start button and driving mode selector on the steering wheel are optional.
