The controversy in Austria with the track limits seems to have no end. Eight pilots were those who received sanctionsbut for which it was the revelation of the race ending in fourth positionthere is one of them who was saved from a greater punishment.
Lando Norris think thatlewis hamiltonhe exceeded the track limits on several occasions early in the race, just as the seven-time champion was behind him. Hamilton told the team over the radio about his difficulties steering the car and not going out of bounds. Norris, who spent a large part of the race just behind the Englishman, affirms that “did like four track limits“.
“I was commenting live on each curveand he only received a five second penalty. Maybe I should have commented more curves“, he commented on ‘Sky Sports’.
Norris was confused by the decision of the stewards, who only penalized Hamilton once with 5 seconds: “If you go long they sanction you, but for some reason he was not sanctionedSo I’m a little confused.”
Despite everything, Lando did not want to blame the Briton, aware that this is not the first time this problem has occurred at the Red Bull Ring: “I was only behind Lewis and I feel sorry for him because he had a car behindI can’t describe what he must have been feeling at that moment, for him it would be hard to stay ahead of a faster car which also has DRS and pushes you in every corner”.
The solution for the coming years
Norris believes that at Turns 9 and 10 they should put gravel, “just like we have at the exit of Turn 4 and at the exit of Turn 6.” Even so, he knows that the penalty can occur in the space of 2 cm above the white line.
Norris’s idea is in the same vein as the solution that Verstappen proposed on Saturday: “They penalize us even if we do that… for me it’s nonsense, we should be able to use the gravel as a boundary and if you go to the gravel you have screwed up, you make a mistake, you get penalized“.
