when Zagato gave the beast more exclusivity

To many fans of the motor world, if you ask them what their favorite car of all time, they will answer that the Porsche Carrera GT. It is not for less, because the German supercar drank directly from the competition and surprised everyone in 2003 with that indelible design and the shuddering howl of its 5.7-liter atmospheric V10 mechanics with more than 600 CV. However, it is less known Porsche Carrera GTZa copy of which only six units were made.

The Z that is added to his name could only come from Carrozzeria Zagato, the legendary Italian coachbuilder that has collaborated with dozens of brands in its more than a century of history. The relationship with Porsche began in the 1950s with the 356 Zagato Speedster, but it didn’t stop there. One of the most amazing creations was the Carrera GTZ and its story begins to request from a private collector. He was looking for one more image of Gran Turismo, with the Italian style that Zagato has always promised, and he was willing to pay for it.

The question was to make a redesign that also contributed aerodynamically and improve the efficiency of the Carrera GT. It was done with a slightly longer front bumper in the center section and with some recognizable creases. Although the main changes happened in the rear. The engine cover was brand new and represented the double bubble ceiling from Zagato. Those humps were used to channel air through NACA ducts to improve cooling.

They kept the removable roof panels original, which can be stored under the hood, while a small spoiler and renewed exhaust outlets were added at the rear. The reception of this project was so positive that they decided to take it to production. There were only six units of the Porsche Carrera GTZ, but the truth is that one of them is the original prototype from 2013 and is still in the hands of the Swiss collector. The another five were made between 2018 and 2019 after a few select customers sent their Carrera GTs to the folks at Zagato.

The one that appears in the images is unit number 4 and is currently for sale by the specialist DK Engineering. It was initially sold in the United States and later traveled with a new owner to the United Kingdom. There it underwent a color change before it changed hands again. It was at this time that its owner wanted to convert it to Zagato specification. The works amounted to 400,000 euros, as it also underwent a repaint in dark metallic green and something that makes it unique. It is the only one of all GTZs to have a full bespoke interior from Zagato.

That means you get a matching leather upholstery with the bodywork on virtually all surfaces, in addition to other details. The status of this copy is contest and it has recently passed an inspection at the official house. Sold with a spare set of original Carrera GT wheels and its price estimated between 1.5 and 1.7 million pounds (between 1.75 and 1.99 million euros). That the auction exceeds seven figures is more understandable considering the exclusivity of the Porsche Carrera GTZ.
