Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Announced in Japan that it has reached a basic software development partnership agreement with SCSK Corporation (SCSK)a provider of Information Technology (IT) services and solutions based in Japan.
What’s going on?
In today’s automotive market, the popularization of electrified, automated and connected vehicles is accelerating, and the great ability to develop software (applications) that adapts to these trends has become indispensable.
In addition, the importance of software development is increasing, since the creation of products based on the concept of “software-defined mobility”in which such programs define the value of hardware and services, is accelerating toward realizing new value creation through next-generation mobility products and services.
In light of such automotive technology trends, Honda has entered into a basic agreement to form a partnership with SCSK to establish a system and capability that It will enable smoother and faster software development.
The two companies will unite their strengths, as the safety control and systems control technologies from Honda and the wide range of IT technologies from SCSK, and will maximize the synergy between the engineers of the two companies. The two companies will strive to develop highly competitive, next-generation, software-defined mobility products and services. Both companies will leverage this partnership to continually improve their respective software engineering talent pool.
Building on this partnership, SCSK plans to increase the number of its IT engineers working with Honda to 1,000 or more on its payroll by 2030.
The two companies will collaborate on software development in the following areas:
- Operating System (OS) for next generation Electrical/Electronic (E&E) architecture
- electrified powertrains
- Advanced security and automated driving
- IVI (in-vehicle information and entertainment)
Honda Autonomous Working Vehicle (AWV)
Additionally, through this partnership, the two companies will explore possible collaboration in the following areas:
