Laurent Rossi is no longer the CEO of Alpine. This was announced by the French team in a statement, going on to be replaced by Philippe Krief in the company section and Bruno Famin in the Formula 1 section.
This decision has been taken by the general director Luca de Meo, who appreciated the work carried out by Rossi: “Laurent has established a clear and ambitious strategy for the brand. You have put Alpine in the best possible position to achieve its long-term goals. Alpine is now ready to enter a new phase of its development and become a brand with a future.”
The French leader leaves with the thorn in his side of not being able to pass the team’s ceiling, fourth position in the Constructors’ World Championship. Rossi led the ambitious project of transformation from Renault to Alpine and managed to bring back Fernando Alonso to the ‘Great Circus’.
However, he also let the Asturian escape by offering him only a one-year contract and in his two and a half years at the helm of Alpine the French team has only won one race (Hungary 2021). A very poor background for a team that aspired to assault the three big teams in Formula 1 and that this season is fifth in the Constructors’ World Championship.
Despite relieving him of his position, Rossi will continue within the company’s structure, but now “he will focus on special projects linked to the transformation of the Renault Group.”
