There are few cars with the aura of Lexus LFA. The Japanese coupé is considered one of the best supercars of the past decade due to its performance, with that V10 mechanics with an unforgettable sound. Also due to its high exclusivity, since in 2010 it was already presented at a high price and that they made only 500 units has only increased its valuation over the years. However, we find it striking that still selling new units when this model was discontinued more than 10 years ago.
Production of the Lexus LFA began in December 2010. To maintain high quality standards, the Japanese brand I barely made 20 units a month. This means that these 500 units were completed in approximately two years, taking December 2012 as the date the last LFA rolled off the production line. Despite this, we have recently seen several cases of copies that were sold as new. More than a decade later, how is it possible?
Official records say that two new Lexus LFAs were sold in 2018. In 2019 there were three units and in 2020 another three. They are cases that have occurred in the United States, where the dealer system is different from the European model. There they do not have so many demands from the brands nor do they have to meet objectives. That makes them have more freedom to buy and also to sell. Some visionaries were able to buy several units of the LFA and save some with a certain vision of the future as it has been given
In 2017 the brand He claimed there were a dozen of brand new Lexus LFAs spread across various US dealerships. If we discount those that have been sold in recent years and take into account that since 2020 no new copies have been purchased, it leaves us with there would still be an unregistered unit and waiting to be sold. An authentic unicorn of which there is no certainty, since it escapes the jurisdiction of the manufacturer.
In any case, its value is difficult to calculate. Recently we have been able to see Lexus LFA auctions close to seven figures, some special with the Nürburgring Package even exceeding that amount. One is now being offered for auction by RM Sotheby’s in Monterey and has barely 75 kilometers on the marker. is expected to be between 650,000 and 800,000 euro. We will be waiting to see how it is sold and also if that last new unit of the Lexus LFA ever comes out, one of the most special cars of recent times.
