The mobile park of the General Directorate of the Civil Guard has a good reason to put on a good smile, since it has modernized its fleet of vehicles with 165 units adapted from the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV. This is the plug-in hybrid aspect of the Japanese compact SUV, which will be distributed in the different Citizen Security units.
As quoted from the brand the Eclpise Cross PHEV “adapts perfectly to the demands of the Body, thanks to its build quality, legendary Mitsubishi permanent four-wheel drive and advanced active and passive safety systems.” They also cite the advantages of having an “electric drive that offers an immediate response, allowing urban travel or medium journeys without fuel consumption”, which makes it worthy of the Zero Emissions environmental label.
As long as the agents of the meritorious company plug in the vehicle on a recurring basis, they will be able to enjoy clean and silent electric driving for 45 kilometers, and a total autonomy of around 600 km, as the system automatically switches to self-recharging hybrid mode. The battery is lithium-ion and has a gross capacity of 13.8 kWh (9 useful kWh). It can be charged with alternating current (3.7 kW) and with direct current (22 kW), something that, little by little, is becoming popular among the electrified.
We can consider the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross as a somewhat particular car, since not as many are seen on the streets as its little brother, the ASX. Presented in 2018, the SUV of the three diamonds it is only marketed as a plug-in hybrid (Test) since2021. Under the skin it has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine along with a pair of electric motors, one on each axle (which makes it an all-wheel drive vehicle). The set delivers a power of 188 CV and a consumption of 2 l/100 km.
Of the Eclipse Cross, Mitsubishi has registered a total of 1,171 units until September so far in 2022. And of the total set, only 541 units (46%), have ended up in the hands of individuals. The rest has been distributed in sales to the different rental companies and company fleets. The deliveries of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV to the Civil Guard would be included in the latter, in addition to other models such as the Citroën C4 and C5 Aircross or the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, among others.
