Alpine and Lotus will no longer co-develop the new A110

In January 2021, Alpine and Lotus signed a collaboration agreement to develop a new electric sports car, which would serve to give life to the new generation of the A110as well as a new model from the British firm that, until now, is known to have been known under the code Type 135.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly, but it was Alpine itself that through a statement announced that the agreement for the development of this electric sports car has come to an end: “We have been collaborating on a vision for a future electric sports car for more than two years, during which time a strong relationship has developed between the two companies.”

“As in any collaboration, the result was not guaranteed and we have decided not to advance in the joint development of a sports car for Alpine. This in a muta decision reached amicably. We will continue to discuss other future opportunities.”was indicated by Alpine.

The idea behind this project was that the new A110 shared platform and technologies with the Lotus Type 135, the successor to the Lotus Elise. That included the possibility of having the battery cells positioned vertically behind the driver, which will give it a behavior like that of a mid-engine sports car.

It is worth mentioning that both companies were also working on a couple of electric SUVs, which would hit the market between 2027 and 2028. However, it is not entirely clear what will happen with these models.
