Fernando Alonso did not get his sixth podium of the season in the Spanish Grand Prix. He got his worst result, seventh, behind his teammate, Lance Stroll. And that caused pessimism in the ‘alonsismo’, who arrived in Barcelona with a lot of desire to achieve victory number 33.
Mike Krack, Aston Martin boss, believes they should not be disappointed. And he has his motives. “We should not be disappointed with this result”says.
“It’s good to have both Aston Martins finishing the race this afternoon and we leave Barcelona with 14 points. Lance and Fernando have pushed very hard in this race, they have made good overtaking and worked very well as a team”, details Krack. Aston Martin falls to third place in the constructors’ championship behind Mercedes.
“We didn’t have the pace to fight for the podium today. The pace in the first stint on the softs didn’t give us the performance we wanted to fight with the cars in front, but in the second and third stints we worked well.” details that of the green team.
And he says: “We had a good advantage with the riders behind us and before leaving Spain, I want to thank the passionate fans for their energy.”
Despite everything, Alonso maintains his third place in the world championship. Twelve points more than lewis hamilton and 34 more than George Russell. The two Mercedes have taken an important leap forward with these points achieved in Montmeló.
In fact, it seems that Mercedes has become the great threat. But at Aston Martin they are calm. In Canada Important improvements will come and Alonso has already issued a very clear warning: “We are going to crush them…”.
