Nyck de Vries, AlphaTauri pilot, has acknowledged in ‘Racing News 365’ that he understands the rumors of his possible departure from the Formula 1 due to his poor performance these first months of competition.
“I think I personally have made a lot of mistakes, I openly admit it. The pace has been very good at times, which gives me strength and confidence, but I haven’t been able to execute it or put everything together. The speed is there,” he says.
The Dutch driver has not managed to score points so far and his best result in a race has been fourteenth in it Saudi Arabian GP. In addition, he currently occupies the last position in the general classification of the World Cup.
De Vries earned his seat in AlphaTauri after being champion of the formula e and finishing ninth in his first F1 race -he replaced Alex Albon last season at Williams-.
However, the poor results this season have led to Helmut Marko, Red Bull adviserto insinuate that a new replacement for the Dutchman is being considered.
“It’s not a shock to me, it’s normal, is this industry, it has always been like this in Red Bull and in Formula 1. I think there is no difference with the beginning of the season, you always have to perform, deliver results and it has been like this throughout my career,” De Vries explained about the rumors of his possible departure.
Added to this, his team has lowered its performance compared to last season. AlphaTauri is penultimate in the constructors’ world championship, with so only two points and it does not seem to hit the key to get a fairly competitive car.
