Bad news for Samsung; 2.5 years imprisonment

Samsung Group chairman and successor Lee Jae-yong was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for an incident at tech giant Samsung in 2015. The reason for the prison sentence given to the South Korea Seoul Supreme Court is that there is an irregularity in the controversial merger of two Samsung units. In the scandal that occurred at the South Korean company Samsung, Samsung's Vice President Lee Jae-Yong, the ongoing lawsuit on the grounds of irregularity in the controversial merger of the two Samsung units was concluded. According to the final case, South Korea's Seoul Supreme Court sentenced Lee Jae-yong to 2.5 years in prison. Lee had previously been tried and convicted in the bribery scandal that led to the dismissal of former President Park Geun-hye. After Lee Kun-hee, CEO, Lee Kun-hee, who was hospitalized with a heart attack in 2014, Lee had de facto control of the company ever since.

On the other hand, the court upheld the 22-year prison sentence given to former president Park Geun-hye for crimes such as bribery and abuse of office. The court, which evaluated the appeal of prosecutors to the verdict on the reduction of Park's sentence in July last year, was cleared of the former President of charges such as "extortion" and misconduct of some duties. Therefore, the 25-year prison sentence requested for Park was reduced to 22 years.
