Carlos Sainz despairs with the pace of Ferrari

Carlos Sainz has crossed the finish line of the Spanish Grand Prix in fifth place. The two Mercedes passed him, Lewis Hamilton and George Russelland also the Red Bull of Checo Perez. He didn’t have the pace to be on the podium. Another disastrous Sunday for the Ferrari team. And there are too many already.

That is why Sainz has been desperate with his team once the Spanish Grand Prix has finished. Going so far as to say that in the first laps he was “stepping on eggs”. This is how he expressed himself in ‘Dazn’.

“The first five laps of the race I have been stepping on eggs. When Hamilton passed Stroll, I pushed and went slower than before. I knew then that it was going to be a difficult day. I couldn’t treat the tire better and even so we have degraded a lot,” said the Spanish rider.

His mood is “frustrated”: “Not depressed, but at home you want to show off. If it’s a defensive run, Well, you defend yourself, but I couldn’t do it. I was only able to attack at the start and Max defended him very well.”

He agrees with his teammate charles leclerc: “In the last stint I was going fast compared to the Aston Martins, but the first one was horrible. Charles is right. We have decent stages and other dramatic ones. And we don’t know why. We’re waiting with our own car. We couldn’t find the right explanation”.

“We are focusing on understanding what is happening with the tire and with the degradation. In fast corner we are one of the worst teams. There we have no stability. Barcelona, because of the fast corners and the degradation, we are never going to be good at it. The race has put us in our place. Yesterday I started to warn… I had the best weekend of the year, but I finished fifth”, said Sainz.
