Does Alonso’s great opportunity arrive? Red Bull believes they will “suffer” at Imola due to rivals’ improvements

Red Bull it has no rival. He has five victories in the five races that have been held in this 2023 Formula 1 World Cup. His rivals were again more than 20 seconds behind, leaving Fernando Alonso in third place (fourth podium for the Aston Martin).

But everything could change from Imola. Christian Horner, head of Red Bull, said after the double of Max Verstappen and Checo Perez that in Imola the sanction that the team received for breaching the 2022 budget limit could begin to be noticed.

“I think that the sanction of budget limit hours will start to do damage from the next race in Imola, which is where the big improvements will come from. We have to be very selective about the parts we want to test to develop the car,” said Horner.

Because for Red Bull those improvements will have to wait: “We have to develop the car later in the year, so it’s important for us to have some air between Red Bull and the rivals at this stage of the season.”

“We have been able to get off to a good start and have not had any major problems, so we can focus on continuing to improve…”, said the head of the energy drink team. And so much so that they have had a good start. Its two pilots have shared all the victories.

“Five races, five wins with four doubles. We’ve never had a start like this and we’re still wondering where the others are,” he says about Aston MartinFerrari and Mercedes.

“We have taken a normal step forward during the winter and there is the question of where they have gone mercedes and ferrari. They are working hard and I am sure that they will have improvements for Europe…”, has sentenced the head of the team that to date has had no rival on the grid.
