The double retirement, second in a row after Monza, did not make Alpine react in Singapore until more than half an hour after the end of the race. “We seek to identify the possible problems of the power unit in both cars”, communicated the French team after the withdrawal of Fernando Alonso Y Stephen Ocon. Terrible news for the Asturian, who was unable to celebrate his record 350 races in Formula 1 in Marina Bay.

“Once again we have lost eight or 10 points. And throughout the year there are already 60, which is unacceptable”, Alonso valued in the DAZN microphones. His scowl shows disgust at what happened on lap 21, when his A522 ran out of power and he had to take the run-off at turn 10.

The image of Fernando, sitting by the fence, wiping away sweat and his face contorted, summed up his frustrating season at Alpine. “I feel very upset, because during the weekend I had given good performances. And once again everything was cut short by a mechanical failure”, added the man from Oviedo.

“The dry line was hardly visible”

His effort on Saturday to sneak into the top5 and his fierce battle against Max Verstappen suddenly vanished for Alonso. “It was a very complicated race in difficult conditions, since the dry line was hardly visible on the track”, he analyzed about a race that had been delayed by an hour due to rain.

The drama doubled for Alpine on lap 28, when thick white smoke erupted from Ocon’s car. The Renault engine left the team led by laurent rossi Y Otmar Szafnauerwhich is now overtaken by McLaren in the Constructors’ World Championship.

“It’s true that both cars stopped, but that doesn’t change much. This year almost everything is changing for me,” added Alonso, who still has to lead the team for the remaining five races. “Suzuka is one of my favorite circuits and so are the Japanese fans. Besides, I’m going to be resting in Tokyo, a city that I love”, forecast for next weekend’s match.
