Fernando Alonso assumes the new situation of Aston Martin: “We are suffering”

Fernando Alonso he finished the Hungarian Grand Prix in ninth position, which is the worst result of the season. A painful resultespecially at the Hungaroring where there were high hopes for a great performance.

However, it was a reality check. Alonso finished ninth and Stroll tenth, remaining as the fifth team in discord. A considerable drop from the start of the season when they were clearly the second best team.

And this new reality has been assumed by Fernando Alonso himself. At the end of the race, he was very candid about the level of Aston Martin: “I’ve had a bit of a lonely career. There would be no rhythm to attack or great rivals from behind with which to fight We always lacked those three or four tenths. A lonely race.”

“We have added fewer points than we wanted. We have fallen in performance. There is no doubt that we are suffering. We are working hard and it is time to grit our teeth and stay focused. The good thing we had is gone. What we have improved, we must retain and improve the car.”

With the end of the race in Hungary, halfway through the championship is reached. A first half that Alonso describes as outstanding: “These two races have been regular, but I rate the first half as outstanding.. In the second half we have to try to improve.”

The next appointment before the summer break in Spa. An appointment in which they also expect to suffer, more taking into account that there is a sprint format: “It will be complicated. I think we would need as many free as possible to test. If we have doubts, if it works or not. The sprint is not going to help us. It might rain, in Spa you never know”.
