Daniel Ricciardo he has been left without a starting position in Formula 1. After two bad seasons at McLaren, the British team decided to terminate the remaining year of his contract and he had to look for a new team. He called it Red Bull, albeit to be his reserve driver.
Despite being able to join Haas or Williams, he wanted to take a sabbatical and leave the ‘Great Circus’. Y the Australian is hoping to return by 2024 and take as an example three drivers who have started and returned to the grid: Nico Hulkenberg, Kevin Magnussen and Fernando Alonso.
Ricciardo is going to use this ‘sabbatical year’ to regain strength, as he said in an interview for ‘Crash.net’: “I know myself better than anyone and I know how much it will help me to feel better next year. I take a gap year with confidence, because I know that this will allow me to come back even stronger”.
And the Australian has as a reference the pilots who have already done the same thing that he plans to do: “Hulkenberg could be called ‘Hulkenback’, he has returned so many times already. And the examples of Alonso or Magnussen are very motivating. Fernando’s example is especially motivating because he lives and dies for racing“.
“In my particular case, I think I’m going to have to get away from racing even more than he (Alonso) did. This way, this battery recharge will be really useful. His case is an example for me, something that makes me even more convinced that I made the right decision and that I can still return in 2024″, he concluded.
