With the SF90 XX Stradale and SF90 XX Spider, Ferrari brings its track technology to street cars, with a power output of more than 1,000 hp.
Ferrari, for the first time in its history, has applied its “XX” label, reserved for its circuit models, to a street car, unveiling the SF90 XX Stradale and its convertible variant the SF90 XX Spider.
The Ferrari XX program has normally been reserved for track-inspired models, but these two new Ferrari models are approved for driving on the road. They catch the eye at first glance with their fixed rear wings, a first for Ferrari since the F50 of the 1990s. The additional downforce this creates is balanced by a larger diffuser at the front and an F1-inspired double S-duct, which provides 20 per cent more front downforce compared to the regular SF90.

This SF90 XX Stradale has fully enclosed underbody and an optimized floor thanks to the relocation of the medium temperature radiators, in addition to other aerodynamic features such as front and rear wheel arch grilles to reduce pressure in the wheel arches. . The result is that the SF90 XX Stradale develops 530 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
A new active aerodynamic device at the rear of the car, called the ‘shut-off Gurney’, can be deployed to reduce aerodynamic drag, allowing both the SF90 XX coupe and convertible to achieve a higher speed.maximum speed of 320 km/h.
Both the XX Stradale and Spider use an optimized version of the SF90 plug-in hybrid powertrain, with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a 7.9 kWh battery that powers three electric motors: one inside the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and two on the front axle. The fully electric autonomy is testimonial, but reaches 24.5 km.

The combustion engine now develops 786 hp (17 hp more than the standard SF90), while the electric motors produce 230 hp, which is an increase of 13 hp over the conventional variant. This contributes to a total power increase of 30 hp, up to a total of 1,015 hpcompared to the SF90 Stradale and Spider.
Its 1,015 total hp is available in the Qualifying driving mode, selectable via the eManettino steering wheel switch, which gives access to the Ferrari Extra Boost function. In this way, the driver has a total of 30 “tokens” that are activated at full throttle when the car detects that the steering turn is minimal.
Ferrari claims that the car uses seven “tokens” on laps at Fiorano, and that the system helps shave a quarter of a second off lap time (not yet published) compared to the regular SF90. Battery can be recharged on the move using the motorwhile braking the motors also add some regenerative effect and send energy to the battery.

This maximum power translates into a 0-100 km/h time of 2.3 seconds for the SF90 XX Stradale. This car will accelerate from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.5 seconds, while these times increase slightly to 2.4 seconds and 6.7 seconds, respectively, for the SF90 XX Spider.
The XX Stradale weighs 1,560 kg, 10 kg lighter than the standard SF90 when configured with the lightweight options, which include new two-piece carbon fiber seats. Ferrari claims the V8 is also 3.5kg lighter than the production car, while it has developed a new shift strategy for the transmission in order to increase shift intensity and noise.

Ferrari too has created a more racing interior to match the most extreme engineering and exterior design, with a simpler treatment of the door panels, the central tunnel and the floor mats. Many areas are upholstered in what the Italian brand calls “technical fabrics”, and carbon fiber is used in functional areas of the interior. The upper part of the dashboard is upholstered in Alcantara, while the concave door panels can be chosen in a contrasting colour.
Ferrari will only build 799 examples of the SF90 XX Stradale and 599 units of the Spider, which have a price of 770,000 euros and 850,000 euros, respectively. Unfortunately for those who are reading this article, they have all been sold, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in Europe in the second quarter of 2024.
