from not moving your wrists to completing the Bahrain GP

“He’s a hero.” Those were the words of Fernando Alonso about Lance Stroll, who finished sixth at the Bahrain Grand Prix despite having had surgery just days before after suffering a cycling accident.

Now Lance has shown on his social networks how his recovery was. A recovery that only lasted a few days, recently operated and with the nails still in his wrists.

“Today I want to take a moment to reflect on the last two weeks and share my story with all of you…”, begins his message from the Canadian driver, who has received a lot of praise for the feat he has completed.

After the accident all the alarms went off: “The scanners showed that he had a fracture and displacement in the right wrista fracture in the left wrist, a partial fracture in the left hand and finally another fracture in the big toe of the right foot”.

His team was convinced that he would not be able to make it to the start of the season. But it did come. “My medical team made sure that we were doing everything that would show any evidence of bone healing. It became my full-time job, trying to combine everything that could help, even if it was 0.5%,” explains Alonso’s partner.

He regained mobility and strength in record time: “Rehabilitation required hard work and persistence, but with an amazing medical team and the support of my friends and family, I was able to get over the pain and get back on track in Bahrain with my team and my fellow pilots”.

And he got it. He arrived in Bahrain, took part in practice, having to be helped by his mechanics to get out of the car, and finished sixth in the race: “I am grateful for everyone who supported me, sent kind messages and well wishes.”
