“Half of the flat bottom was missing”

Fernando Alonso finished in ninth position in qualifying on Saturday at the Spanish Grand Prix. The flat bottom prevented him from fighting for the top positions against max verstappen, who made the pole. He himself admitted that he had made a mistake.

Mike Krackhead of Aston Martin, has revealed how damaged that floor was: “With great damage. I asked the team and we were told half of the flat bottom was missing. We fixed it however we could and obviously we had to get him out. We have tried to limit the damage in each break. It was a good qualifying considering that.”

“It’s hard to know where we might have gotten, but second position was possible. We trust that we will repair it by tomorrow. We shouldn’t be talking about the podium starting ninth, but the weather and a good car open up a possibility for us”, said the head of the green team.

Alonso, for his part, acknowledged that things had not gone well: “We have had a bad Saturday, especially on my part. The car left me for putting a wheel in the wet…”.

“I damaged the bottom. And it hurts more because it was on a warm-up lap. Optimistic for tomorrow. He came to do 1:12:7, which was second without the error in turn 10 and with the problems on the flat bottom. If it rains tomorrow we would be happy,” said the two-time Formula 1 champion.

He will have to come back on Sunday. ahead has Hulkenberg, Esteban Ocon and his teammate Lance Stroll.
