Alpine faces a complicated mission in the future. one in which, without Fernando Alonso, they will have to at least maintain the level exhibited in these two seasons with the Asturian, two-time Formula 1 world champion, wearing the blue of his team. Now, after a summer in which they lost two pilots they thought they had tied up, they have Pierre Gasly and with Esteban Ocon.
They have two drivers who, a priori, form a less competitive couple than the one formed by the French driver and Fernando Alonso in this 2022. One with whom, despite the multiple reliability issues that the Asturian is suffering, is fourth in the Constructors’ World Championship fighting with McLaren.
Perhaps they would already have that place secured, if it weren’t for things like those of Mexico or Singapore, or Italy and Saudi Arabia, but Alonso has suffered in his meat the problems of a car that with Ocon it doesn’t seem to have as many mechanical failures.
Now, Laurent Rossy, CEO of Alpine, has spoken about the future that awaits them both as a brand and as a team, in words that collects ‘Motorsport’.
“I hope that Gasly and Ocon show what they can do. Pierre is just what we need. We signed him because he meets our requirements… And he’s also French.it states.
In that sense, he warns Ocon: “We will not have a number 1 and a number 2. We didn’t do that with Alonso and Ocon, and we won’t do that with Gasly and Esteban.”
“They both see Alpine as a great opportunity. And at 26, possibly this is the last big contract of their sporting careers”, Rossi insists with age.
And he states: “If a pilot with 26 he has not won the World Cup It gets to a point where he has to ask himself if he thinks he can step up in quality.
