The 2022 season of lewis hamilton Has been of the worst of his career. For the first time since his arrival in Formula 1, the Briton ended up without winning or taking pole position all year. In an interview with ‘Sport Bild’, Hamilton spoke of his future in the ‘Great Circus’. the ’44’ contract ends in 2023 and has revealed that he has not yet held talks with Mercedes for the renewal: “We have not started with that yet. Until now we have not had time, we have been away from home for two months in a row.”
And although he confesses that the withdrawal has gone through his head, Hamilton confirms that his intention is to continue in Formula 1: “Sometimes you wake up and have this feeling of ‘I don’t want to do this anymore’. And sometimes you wake up and you think ‘I can still do other things all my life, there is more I want to achieve’. It won’t be long, but I’ll definitely stay“.
“I think retiring as world champion is a dream that every athlete has, and me too”, added the Englishman.
He will continue, but Formula 1 is not his priority
Hamilton has made clear his dream of continuing and being world champion again, but at the same time he is clear that Formula 1 is no longer the most ‘important’ thing in his life: “Motorsport is not the most important thing for me either. When I was a kid maybe it was, probably also when I got into F1.”
“Since I was 30 I realized that it’s about making memories. With friends and with family. It’s about key memories with the people who mean the most to you. That’s what I focus on and plan things to create those moments, because that’s what you take with you in the long run.”
