Fernando Alonso has given its approval to the FIA’s decision to the Miami GP. To a decision that they have made based on what happened last year, and that has not been without discussion among the drivers on the grid. The Asturian has given the OK to have shortened the DRS zone on the Florida track.
Something that it already happened in Baku, where it also generated some controversy, but the two-time champion and current Alpine rider understands: “Here and in Azerbaijan They were the easiest last year.”
“That’s why the FIA shortened the zone of DRS. I heard Hamilton say that he was very short… but for them, with high downforce, he was. AND for Red Bull It was long,” he says.
And he argues: “On the finish line, Verstappen passed Leclerc and opened up to the outside at Turn 1. If you’re that car, it’s very long; if you are another, it was short.”

“The FIA will have made the calculation by watching the 2022 races. That’s why they shortened it, but let’s see what happens this year”, insists.
In words that collects ‘Motorsport’, Alonso talks about what it’s like to follow the cars in front: “You have to give a little more time. Without the Red Bull there would be three or four teams in a couple of tenths.”
“Sometimes in six tenths you are between third and 16th in Q1. We are all very close in terms of performance,” says Alonso.
Alonso also points out the tires: “They continue to overheating a lot if you follow other cars. You have to decide intelligently when to be too close to another car.”
