It was a surprise to everyone that Esteban Ocon to qualify third at the Monaco Grand Prix behind Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso. He held that position in the race and Alpine became the big surprise. Optimism is total in the French team after these results.
Alpine’s sporting director, Alan Permanehas commented in ‘RacingNews365, has shown that optimism: “We expect more of the same in Barcelona. I do not think it is a special car for Monaco, it is the improvements that we were going to introduce in Imola that are working well.”
And he sees himself fighting with the best again: “I hope to be ahead of Mercedes and level with Ferrari in Barcelona. Max is too far away and Sergio will also be up there.”
“Fernando Alonso) it’s going to be very complicated, but I see no reason to think that we cannot fight with Ferrari and Mercedes. We did it in Monaco and also in Miami. They were faster than us at the end, but we were able to be there with them, which is what we really want,” says Permane.
In Barcelona, in addition, they will have improvements: “We have another small improvement on the way and more will come in the next ones for more accurate performance.”
Has the time for Alpine finally arrived? With that podium from Ocon they have placed fifth in the constructors’ championship ahead of McLaren. Ferrari, yes, is too far (90 by 35 points).
