Hanoi may be back in Formula 1. Or, rather, ‘return’. The mythical Vietnam GP, which was part of that F1 calendar in 2020 impossible to meet due to COVID, could already be in the 2024 World Cup. One that, if so, could consist of 25 races.
It is what the boss of F1 wants, Stefano Domenicali. He wants a World Cup even longer. More than 23 tests of which this season consists. Some that could even be one more if China had not fallen… or if the Shanghai appointment had been replaced.
For the next course, and in the absence of knowing what happens with, for example, South Africa, Vietnam is running to be on the calendar. In 2020, Hanoi was, or was to be, the main novelty along with the return of the Dutch GP.
But it could not be disputed the covid pandemic, and unlike what happened with Zandvoort, Hanoi was not in the subsequent World Cup appointments.
That may well change, and Vietnam may finally be in the championship. That’s what they said in the account from FormulaDirecta’s Twitter next to a track that will consist mainly of straight lines.
As reported, the layout would consist of what was done for 2020 plus another urban part through the main streets of Hanoi.
It remains to be seen what remains and whether we will have the Vietnam GP in 2024. F1 is in fashion, and there are many who want to see single-seaters in their cities and countries. New York, London… and yes, Madrid.
