Koenigsegg regains 0-400-0 record, again surpasses Rimac

As the saying goes, records are meant to be broken and during this month, Koenigsegg did its thing.. The context is as follows: the sparkling Rimac Nevera, launched on the market in 2021, made headlines in May of this year by breaking 23 speed and performance records in a single day.

Some of these records were in the name of another Koenigsegg model, the Regera. And so they have alternated with the SSC Tuatara and the Bugatti Veyron or Chiron on the track.

But after the records of the Refrigerator, in Koenigsegg, just for wanting to screw up the life of the Rimac team, they took a Regera to a track, fitted it with Racelogic gear (the same ones who monitored the Nevera records) and tried it one more time. The excuse is that the Regera is 10 years old since its internal development began, but we know that it is a fight of egos.

The Regera made it 0-400-0 in 28.81 seconds. Of that time, it took him only 20.68 seconds to reach 400 kilometers per hour, or considerably less than the 31.49 seconds he originally did in 2021. The runway at Stockholm’s Örebro airport where the test was carried out was reportedly better paved and the tires that the Regera was fitted with are a completely new model, the Michelin Cup2R.

El Nevera was left with 29.94 seconds and I confirm that in Rimac they are not happy at all.

“This specific record is one that means a lot to the company as it is a record that covers all aspects of peak performance. That the Regera can still amaze and dazzle the automotive world after all this time is a testament not only to its timeless design, but to engineering and technology that was developed beyond any scale. It’s something I’m proud of and as we start delivering the new Jesko to your customers, I can’t wait to show you what’s next.”

Christian von Koenigsegg, the very founder of the brand.

The Regera is powered by a hybrid powertrain that combines a 5-liter Twin Turbo V8 with three electric motors. Together they deliver 1,500 hp and 1,480 pound-feet of torque. It is so strong that it does not even need a gearbox, but instead has a hydraulic coupling that works like a clutch. Let me explain: To start the car, it is first powered by two of the three electric motors, located at each rear wheel. This is because with 1,480 lb-ft of torque, the car couldn’t effectively transfer the force to the ground, skidding a lot.

When the car reaches 48 km/h the hydraulic coupling is already linked and that’s where the party begins, a sustained acceleration without limits until 8,250 rpm. Since there is no transmission, it is at that point where the Regera reaches its top speed, 410 km/h. The 0 to 100 does it in 2.7 seconds.
