The Land Rover Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition is a dream come true for lovers of the iconic British classic.
Land Rover does not want to put an end to the classic Defender, one of the most iconic cars in history, and has just presented the Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition, a limited edition of 30 units with a price starting at 230,000 pounds (just over 260,000 euros)
He Classic Defender Works V8 Islay Edition is inspired by Spencer Wilks’ (one of the founders of Land Rover) Land Rover Series IIa from 1965, which is now part of the Land Rover Classic collection, and by the island of Islay in Scotland, where he spent his holidays.

It must be borne in mind that the first prototypes of the Defender were tested on the farm owned by Wilks in the aforementioned archipelago. In 1947, while driving his highly modified Rover through the rugged countryside, the estate’s gamekeeper commented that it should be a ‘Land Rover’ (the Estate Rover), which motivated the birth of the iconic name.
The Islay Edition has the same technical specifications as the Classic Defender Works V8. He 297 kW/405 PS 5.0-litre V8 it is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission. Each car has been completely restored, redesigned and upgraded, using donor cars from 2012 to 2016.
Production of the Works V8 Islay Edition is limited to thirty copies, all Station Wagon. Seventeen will be built in the short-wheelbase 90 body variant and thirteen as seven-seater 110s.

Traditional Land Rover badging is finished in body color and there is a classic grill, familiar from the last production version of the Defender, the Heritage Limited Edition. Traditional badging is also printed on the rear fenders.
Exclusive to the Works V8 Islay Edition is a drawing on the sides with the inscription “GXC 639C”. That was Wilks’ Series IIa number plate and it’s a subtle nod to the car that inspired this themed version of the ultimate classic Defender.

Like previous editions of the Defender Works V8, the Islay Edition incorporates modern enhancementssuch as LED headlights to improve visibility, a new more powerful braking system and an improved suspension.
