The Mercedes GLA is one of the most prominent compact SUVs among the premium for a long time. Now it will also be an option to consider for anyone looking for a plug-in hybrid SUV, since electrification is the protagonist in the Mercedes GLA 250e which we tried a few weeks ago. It is the one that carries the ZERO label, something that is already an added value due to the restrictions in large cities. Now, is it the most interesting version or I’m going for a combustion one? This is precisely the question that we are going to try to solve next.
In it aesthetic section it won’t affect it at all. What’s more, even we have had a hard time distinguishing the GLA plug-in hybrid from the gasoline we tested a long time ago. There are hardly any EQ Power inscriptions and the charging socket on the opposite side of the fuel tank. The same is true of the interior, which is distinguished by the specific menus with the flow of power or with the charge of the battery in this version. If something stands out in this section, it is the good finishes offered by the GLA, with good quality materials in general terms.
Technologically it is also up to par, although it must be emphasized that it will not be the largest vehicle of the segment. Its habitability is slightly below average, although it is always a pleasure to find a bench seat with longitudinal displacement, even in the plug-in hybrid. The trunk does suffer in the Mercedes GLA 250 e, well it stays at 385 liters compared to the 435 liters that the combustion one has. Without counting the space occupied by the charging cables on this surface.
With the 1.33-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine together with the EQ Power system, it achieves a combined power of 218 hp, which is not bad. Although more interesting are the 61 kilometers of autonomy which it approves thanks to its 15.6 kWh batteries. This is probably the strong point of the GLA plug-in hybrid, which also offers very good drive refinement and an above-average level of efficiency. It is clear that for whoever seeks move around the city and have a plug by hand, the GLA 250 e is going to be a more than interesting option. For those who travel more and need the entire trunk, combustion will continue to be their ally.
