Mercedes-Benz has launched a subscription that allows its EQE, EQE SUV and EQS models to have greater acceleration.

The subscription model reaches the automobile and more and more brands (Tesla is a benchmark) are announcing plans in this regard. The latest has been Mercedes-Benz, which is going to offer a subscription service on-line in United States so that their electric cars accelerate more.

For annual cost of 1,200 dollars (1,156 euros) Without taxes, the automaker will allow some of its electric cars to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h a second faster.

Potency increase of between 20 and 24 percent

This service will be available in the Mercedes-Benz EQE, Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, Mercedes-Benz EQS and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, although for now It is only available in the United States.

This function, according to Mercedes-Benz, “electronically increases” the power of the car’s engine, as well as the torque, allowing a power increase of between 20 and 24 percent which, for example, enables the Mercedes-Benz EQ 350 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.2 seconds, compared to 6.2 seconds without the subscription.

From the point of view of the consumer, the answer is not the most positive. Drivers complain that they want to be charged for something that is already installed in the car and so the manufacturer has already made a profit margin.

As we say, It is not the first brand that bets on including extra payment functions. A few months ago, BMW started offering a subscription for heated seats. Toyota, for its part, announced that it would charge some drivers $8 a month to remote start their cars using a key fob; and Tesla, in 2019, introduced “Acceleration Boost,” which makes the Model 3 accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h half a second faster for a one-time fee of $2,000.

And more will come. Almost all the brands, especially the most Premium ones, are investigating the possibilities of this new business that can bring significant revenue to automobile companies.
