Netflix has celebrated Tudum, its massive event for fans, which this year has taken place in Brazil. Sao Paulo has been the setting for multiple platform announcements and, among them, the news about the continuity of the worldwide phenomenon of ‘The Squid Game’.
It was the first Netflix series to reach and exceed 100 million subscriber accounts at its launch and since its premiere in 2021 it remains unrivaled as it remains the most watched series on the platform. ‘The Squid Game’ got 1.65 billion hours of viewing in 28 days and reached 111 million user accounts.
The long-awaited second season of ‘The Squid Game’ will begin shooting at the end of the year, so new episodes won’t arrive until 2024, at least. What we do know already is which characters return and what will be the additions for the new game.
Lee Byung-hun will return as Front Man, Wi Ha-jun will reprise the character of detective Jun-ho, and Gong Yoo will also return. For the new additions, Netflix has gone in search of talent to some of its recent series and movies from Korea such as ‘Unlocked identity’ or ‘The Glory’: Yim Siwan (‘Identity Unlocked’), Kang Ha Neul (‘Midnight Runners’), park sung hoon (‘The Glory’) and Yang Dong-geun (‘Yaksha: Ruthless Operations’).
