As of May 2023, the technical vehicle inspection (ITV) will have to verify the operation of the eCall system.
The Technical Inspection of Vehicles, better known as ITV, is, as you well know, the technical control to which vehicles must be subjected from time to time in our country. From time to time, with the aim of safeguarding the safety of the cars and adapting to the new requirements by the institutions, new features are introduced in this inspection. This 2023 will not be an exception.
Will be from next May when a series of changes are introduced in ITV stations, as announced by the Spanish Association of Collaborating Entities of the Administration in the Technical Inspection of Vehicles (AECA-ITV).

This time the changes are related to the entry into force of a new European directive, which aims to harmonize the reviews in the different countries of the European Union. Their entry into force should have been January, but it has been delayed to give the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism time to develop the procedures for checking and collecting data from the systems.

The new aspects that will be evaluated in the ITV will affect ADAS systems (advanced driving assistance systems), batteries, emissions, intelligent transport systems or leaks in air conditioning systems, among others.
The main novelty for the touring or SUV motorist is that vehicle technical inspection stations will have to cCheck the operation of the eCall systemwhich as you know is intended to make a free emergency call to 112 (either automatically or by pressing a button) when a serious road accident occurs.
This security system is included by regulation standard on models approved from March 31, 2018 and its operation will only be verified in those models that include it, without its installation being mandatory in vehicles manufactured prior to this date.
