Chirey’s now independent brand, Omoda made a major announcement at the 2023 Shanghai auto show
What’s happening?
A few weeks ago we announced that Omoda began its own path as a brand and was no longer a sub-brand of Chirey. In addition, We told you about the beginning of the construction of his first agencyas well as the soon arrival of the Omoda 05.
Well, now at the Shanghai 2023 autoshow, the Chinese firm confirms the arrival of an electric car for this year, the electrified version of the Omoda 5, which would arrive in Mexico at the end of 2023.
Omoda 5 EV: General data
We still do not know what this Omoda 5 EV will be called in Mexico, what we do know is that the combustion model will stop being sold as Chirey renamed Omoda C5so it could be called the Omoda C5 EV (it’s a guess).
Aesthetically it maintains the same design with the combustion one but with slight changes, such as the grill. Stop using the elaborate one as a huge honeycomb, to use a more discreet one. This one has a piano black insert at the end of the chest with the Omoda name, and a smooth part in the lower area.
- It uses a new design of wheels in a combination of black with aluminum.
- Inside the appearance looks very elegant and minimalist, according to the images that we present to you. But surely some things will change once I arrive in Mexico.
- What is known is that it would have a single electric motor, mounted in front. With 201 Hp and 295 Lb-ft of torque.
- The battery would be 64 kWh with a range of 450 km (WLTP).
- With fast charging, it would charge from 0-80% in 40 minutes, with a charging time less than 5 hours.
- It is expected to start production in September 2023.
