It was stated that American technology giants such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Alphabet, which are affiliated with Google, may face heavy penalties if they do not change their business practices in line with the new competition rules of the European Union (EU). If these companies do not comply with the rules, there will be penalties of 6 to 10 percent of their annual turnover. It is stated that with a series of new regulations to be introduced within the scope of the EU Digital Markets Law, which is currently in the drafting stage, giant technology companies will be classified under criteria such as the number of users, revenues and the number of markets they operate, and a list of rules will be prepared accordingly. Giant internet platforms with more than 45 million users targeted by the new regulations to be introduced within the scope of the Digital Services Law to combat illegal content, abuse and manipulation . In this context, companies will be asked to take further steps to combat illegal content on their platforms, abuses that violate fundamental rights and elections, or the establishment of manipulative activities on public health issues. According to the information provided by officials speaking to the Reuters news agency, companies will also have to share the details of the data used by the algorithms that suggest and sort information with the political ads on their platforms. Technology giants are trying to use different opinions in favor of the EU With the new proposals to be announced by European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager and European Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton, it is aimed to keep technology giants under control, as well as prevent the formation of anti-competitive dominant companies. First of all, EU countries and EU MPs need to agree on the draft proposals presented by the commission. While some countries and lawmakers demand stricter rules, others have expressed concern that the regulations exceed their purpose and could have a negative impact on innovation.
