1The house, which was owned by boxing legend Mohamed Ali, is for sale for $17 million, as announced by Gary Gold of Coldwell Banker Realty.
twoThe current owners of 55 Fremont Place, in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, have just put up the for sale sign.
3The Italianate-style mansion, the work of architect John C. Austin, known for designing the Griffith Observatory, retains many of its original features such as stone sconces, chandeliers, and stained glass windows by Louis C. Tiffany, son of the founder of Tiffany & Co.
4The three-story house has 1,020 square meters distributed in seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and a ballroom with a bar and restaurant.
5It is located on a plot of just over 6,000 square meters of land that also includes a swimming pool, a guest house and a meditation garden.
6Fremont Place, considered the most exclusive neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles a century ago, is currently a gated community where composer Danny Elfman and his wife, actress Bridget Fonda, have resided, among others.
7Muhammad Ali, who won his first heavyweight championship in 1964, lived in the mansion in the 1980s, after retiring from boxing in 1981.
8The current owners are Michael Lawson, executive director of the Los Angeles Urban League, and Mattie McFadden-Lawson, a former philanthropist and superdelegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
9Mattie McFadden-Lawson also has an interior design firm, MML Design Group, which oversaw the restoration of the home the Lawsons bought in 2001 for $2.5 million in 2001.
10The couple, who have grown children and want to go live in a smaller home, already put the house up for sale in 2021, but due to the pandemic, they never showed it.
