What’s happening?
As it has been doing for more than a decade, Porsche de México joined TECHO to help low-income Mexican families who need a place to live. On this occasion, around 80 volunteers from Porsche de México and the non-profit foundation organized to help in Santa María Malacatepec, in the municipality of Santa Clara Ocoyucan, Puebla, in Mexico.
The volunteers built eight progressive houses and eight rainwater harvesting systems, in the month of May, thanks to part of the profits left by the Porsche 911 Turbo S ‘One of a Kind’ auction Pedro Rodríguez.
Approximately 850 families (more than 5,100 people) currently live in the peri-urban community of Santa María Malacatepec. Eight of these families benefited from progressive 20-square-meter homes, built from rigid pine wood frames, covered with fiber cement panels and stave floor. They are a removable model installed in two days by the beneficiary families themselves, together with the volunteers. These homes have a useful life of up to 15 years.
For their part, with the rainwater harvesting systems, also called SCALL, the families that received their houses will be able to have access to a minimum of 16,800 liters of water per year, this is equivalent to around 15 1,100-liter water tanks or three and a half pipes. of 5000 liters. In addition, it will be possible to save an average of 4,000 pesos per year in costs of access to water.

Data obtained from the 2020 CONEVAL Measurement of Poverty revealed that more than 55 million people currently live in poverty in Mexico, approximately 43.9 percent of the total population; while four out of ten families live in inadequate housing and lack at least one basic service.
An alliance of hope for those most in need
On November 28, 2011, Porsche Latin America signed an agreement with the TECHO organization to sponsor the ARTecho exhibition in Wynwood (Miami), and to build 356 houses for low-income people. The number 356 was a nod to the first car made by Porsche in 1948, the 356 ‘No. 1’.
The alliance between Porsche and TECHO has continued uninterrupted until today. Thanks to the more than two million dollars donated by Porsche Latin America, the support of local importers and distributors and the invaluable work of thousands of volunteers, nearly 750 transitional houses have been built in Latin America and the Caribbean, which, They have benefited more than 5,000 people.
