European car brands fall from 68% to 60% since 2018.

In the midst of a component crisis, it was a rumor that brands like Hyundai or Kia were less affected in their stocks. A small anecdote that reinforces the growing asianization of spanish driversNot surprisingly, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai, Nissan and Mazda already represent 28% of car purchases, when five years ago they were 22%, according to Unoauto, Sumauto’s new vehicle portal, based on ANFAC data. on brands that sell more than 10,000 units a year in our country. On the other hand, if in 2018 68% of sales came from European brands, now it has dropped to 60%.

This oriental muscle is mainly attributable to the good results of Toyota, Kia and Hyundai (they were the TOP3 sales of 2022). However, the Spanish have lost confidence in Japanese brands such as Nissan and Mazda which, despite selling more than 10,000 units a year, have experienced a drop in the last five years, -71% and -41%, respectively.

A notable decrease that European brands such as Opel, with a fall of 67%, or Renault, of 53%, in the last five years. In fact, the appearance of Cupra marks the exception as it is, with 13,476 registered units, the only new European manufacturer that has already overcome the psychological barrier of 10,000 registrations.

Likewise, western manufacturers of the stature of Jeep or Mini want to recover ground and get closer to 10,000 units, a figure that both will touch this year.

According to Ignacio García Rojí, spokesman for Unoauto, “the consumer is becoming “Asian” thanks to the good work carried out by these oriental brands. Traditionally, Spanish customers have always trusted Japanese manufacturers, but now they also trust Korean ones due to their resilience in the face of the semiconductor crisis, a well-diversified and attractive range that covers all user needs and because they are cars. reliable. Furthermore, on many occasions, They have a better quality, equipment, and price ratio than their European counterparts. It remains to be seen how the acceptance of all the Chinese brands that have arrived and are yet to arrive will be, although MG and Lynk & Co are proof that when a product is good, the market respects it regardless of its automotive origin”.
