Who does not remember the Nissan Pathfinder? The Japanese SUV was for sale in our country for many years, although it was finally withdrawn in 2016. This does not mean that it disappeared worldwide, as it is still very present in other markets such as the North American. Although now they have presented a prototype that has little to do with that robust SUV of yesteryear. He Nissan Pathfinder Concept It has been unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show and there are already plans to produce it for a particular region and in a format very different from what we knew.
From that authentic traditionally diesel SUV with outstanding off-road capabilities, it has gone on to a Large, electrified SUV. The only thing that it has in common with the original is the three rows of seats to offer seven seats, because the rest changes radically. The design is much smoother and adapted to current tastes, with a V-Motion grill to resemble the rest of Nissan, along with more stylized LED headlights that serve to accentuate its horizontality. Daytime running lights take a more upright arrangement.
This new Pathfinder for China also has other details such as glossy black accents, new design wheels or a more stylized rear. There are some LED lights joined by the center and in the name of the model in the middle of the gate. Of course, the interior has the original seating arrangement. It offers seven seats with that 2+2+3 configuration and it has also improved in aspects such as the quality of its materials or its technology. There is a dual screen and some touch controls.
What is still unknown and has not been revealed in the prototype is the propulsion system. There is talk of electrification, but it is also not clear at what level. It could use the same platform as the Nissan X-Trail to offer hybrid versions like the one we have in our market, although sharing architecture with the American Pathfinder is also being considered. In any case, four-wheel drive will remain and production will be local. This model will begin to be made in the Dongfeng Nissan facility starting this summer.
