Tesla Mexico announces that it will offer the Model Y in less than one million pesos

What’s going on?

The American manufacturer that has been very active in Mexico, as it is building its new plant in the state of Nuevo León, has just announced an interesting offer for the Y model, which we could consider as the brand’s entry Crossover.

The interesting thing about the announcement of this version with a single motor and traction on the rear axle is that its price does not exceed one million pesos.

The starting price of the version with a single engine and rear-wheel drive is $954,000.00 pesos in national territory and offers us an electric autonomy of 394 km traveled (EPA estimates).

According to analysis made with the CFE The average annual cost of recharging a vehicle with these characteristics is $4,600.00that is to say $383.00 pesos (MXN) per month and if we make a comparison of an internal combustion vehicle -of similar characteristics and price- we will realize that the annual expense only in fuel would be $29,500.00 in one year, that is to say $2,548.00 pesos (MXN ) monthly.

If we calculate the cost of electric energy vs. gasoline in five years -which is supposed to be the average life of the vehicle with its first owner- we will have the result of an electric energy cost -at the current price of $1.79 pesos (MXN) per kWh – $23,000 pesos, versus the $147,500 pesos spent on gasoline in those five years.

The other versions of the Tesla Model Y available in Mexico are:

  • Model Y AWD with longer range: $1,104,900.00
  • Model Y AWD Performance: $1,204,900.00
