The 50 cars with the best discounts in May

The beginning of the month of May confirmed the trend that April had started. New cars (which are still at high levels) begin to moderate their prices. The monthly price report in which we analyzed thousands of specific offers at official dealerships confirmed this. It seems that there is a stock of manufactured cars. Although they have not yet reached pre-pandemic levels, many of the problems that plagued the industry are beginning to be resolved.

Be careful (we repeat) do not expect demolition prices, with increasingly electrified ranges (technologies not yet amortized) and that brands try to convince of their benefits on occasions with more equipment, justifying the final bill.

That leaves us with interesting discounts this month. When analyzing the difference between the prices announced by the manufacturer and those of the advertisements that the dealers publish on coches.com, we see that they reach the 8.94%. Just one tenth better than last month, but enough to be the highest of the year. As usual, we break down the discounts by segments and car shape, since there are great variations, as you can see in this table:

This study is carried out based on thousands of specific offers at a specific moment. You should contact the dealership that makes it for receive more information, since they may include some clauses (or have already sold the car to which the offer in question corresponds). It may happen that the offer you are interested in is made by a dealer too far from your home… in that case, don’t worry, because coches.com informs you of which dealer in your province (and one of the closest ones) has the best prices for the car you are looking for.

Microurban. Average discount: 6.4%

Discounts on small cars gain half a point and, in May, the Mitsubishi Space Star repeats as the most discounted model, ahead of the Hyundai i10 and the Fiat 500, which once again enters the podium thanks to discounts on the hybrid version and electrical.

Microurban cabrio. Average discount: 5.3%

There are not many representatives in this category anymore and their discounts improve four tenths in May. The Fiat 500C with a hybrid or electric motor follows as the most discounted model, followed by the Abarth 595C (a 100% electric version is already available, but for now only with an exclusive version). The smart fortwo Cabrio completes the podium.

utilities. Average discount: 8.9%

In May the discounts in this category worsened by seven tenths. Despite this, the Opel Corsa with a 1.2 gasoline engine continues to be the most discounted model (it has been the most discounted for seven months). Good discounts also on some versions of the Citroën C3 and the Hyundai i20. Special mention this month for the offers of the Volkswagen Polo, which has been very close to entering the podium this month.

small SUVs. Average discount: 7.6%

Discounts in this fashionable category lose almost one point. And change in the most discounted model, which this month is the Hyundai Bayon. In second position is the Ford EcoSport and the MINI Countryman completes the podium, further lowered than the Opel Crossland that led in April and now remains off the podium.

compact. Average discount: 8.3%

The discounts compared to the previous month earn two tenths. And “dance of chairs” in the first positions. The Kia Ceed is the model with the best discounts (with a 120 hp 1.0 TGDI engine), surpassing the Skoda Scala. Beware of the Peugeot 308, which leaves the Renault Megane off the podium.

compact sedans. Average discount: 7.9%

The discounts in this segment are up three tenths, where there are hardly any changes. The Hyundai i30 Fastback follows the model with the best discounts, ahead of the Toyota Corolla Sedan and the Skoda Octavia at a greater distance.

compact coupes. Average discount: 5%

The average discounts improve by three tenths compared to those we saw in April. The first positions in a category with very few members do not vary. The BMW 2 Series Coupé is the most discounted model, ahead of the Toyota GT 86 and the Audi TT (which resists with a version for sale).

Family compacts: Average discount: 10.5%

Discounts go up a tenth and follow the Suzuki Swace as with further discounts, with an interesting hybrid propulsion system. In May it is the Kia Ceed Tourer (with the 1.0 T-GDI gasoline engine or the 1.6 diesel) who occupies the second position, ahead of the Peugeot 308 SW and the Ford Focus Sportbreak, a novelty in the list.

Convertible compacts. Average discount: 5.8%

The discounts in this segment, where there are almost no representatives left, unfortunately, are one tenth worse. In May the discounts of the BMW Z4 exceed those of the Mazda MX-5 (see test), which continues to be the access cabrio par excellence.

Compact MPVs: Average discount: 11.8%

Slightly better discount this month for this type of vehicle in May. Toyota Proace City follows, ahead of the Peugeot Rifter and the Ford Tourneo Connect.

compact SUVs. Average discount: 7.4%

Discounts very similar to those of last month, but down 0.2%. There are no changes in the first positions. And it is that the Ford Kuga continues as the model with the lowest percentage, ahead of the Suzuki S-Cross, the MG HS and the Kia Sportage.

Medium sedans. Average discount: 7.8%

Discounts slightly higher than those of last month and the Citroën C5 X follows as the most discounted model, but be aware that the Alfa Romeo Giulia has quite attractive offers if you are looking for something more sporty. In May the Peugeot 508 (already renewed) slips ahead of the Volkswagen Arteon.

Average family cars. Average discount: 8.9%

Slightly better average discounts compared to those seen in April. It also changes the model with the biggest discounts, which is the Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Break, although the Peugeot 508 SW has not changed its discounts too much after updating, at least in basic versions. They are followed by the Volkswagen Passat Variant and a little further away the BMW 3 Series Touring.

Midsize Coupes: Median Discount: 5.8%

The discounts in this category worsen… which remains unchanged in May. The BMW 4 Series continues ahead of the Mercedes C-Class Coupé, the Ford Mustang (see test), and the Audi A5 further behind.

Midsize convertibles: Average discount: 5.7%

Discounts identical to those of April in these cars. The BMW 4 Series Convertible continues as the model with the highest dealer discounts, ahead of the Mercedes C-Class Convertible and the Audi A5 Convertible.

Large minivans. Average discount: 9.2%

The somewhat better discounts improve slightly and the Toyota Proace Verso is the most discounted model, after which we find the Peugeot Traveler and the Opel Zafira Life. Much further away, the Renault Trafic Combi.

family SUV. Average discount: 5.7%

Discounts win three tenths and the renewed Alfa Romeo Stelvio is the most discounted car, ahead of the Volvo XC60… and the Ford Mustang Mach-E. It is the first time that we see a 100% electric model in this category… ahead of the Seat Tarraco.

Big sedans. Average discount: 5.1%

The discounts win two tenths (just the ones they lost last month) but the Volvo S90 continues as the most discounted model (third consecutive month on the podium). They are followed by the reductions of the BMW 5 Series, more generous than those of the Mercedes E-Class or the Audi A6.

Large relatives. Average discount: 5.7%

The discounts of these bodies in May rise slightly (four tenths). It’s the discounted BMW 5 Series Touring (with diesel or plug-in hybrid) beating the Volvo V90 or the Mercedes E-Class Estate. Outside the podium is the Audi A6 Avant.
