The “advantage” in which Aston Martin works so that Alonso’s car catches up with Red Bull

Fernando Alonso He has been third in the three Grand Prix that have been held: Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia. Great results considering where they came from, but they want more. Much more. Lawrence Stroll is demanding of his “improve podiums”.

And they are at work. In the factory they do not stop working. Even Mike Krack explained that they had to send people home because the engineers put in all the hours necessary to work on Alonso’s AMR23 and Lance Stroll.

Now Tom McCulloughAston’s director of performance, has explained in ‘Ace’, how work is being done in the wind tunnel, the “advantage” of the green team on Red Bull in this 2023 season.

“It is certainly an advantage, we try use it as much as we can. The more time you have, the more sessions you do and the more things you can analyze. We are every week in the wind tunnel looking for development paths that can bring significant performance, keeping the cost ceiling in mind”, he explains.

The improvements are about to arrive: “Parts will arrive from Baku. In reality, it is the process that everyone is doing right now”. Being clear that what they are looking for is to put time into Red Bull “in curves and straight lines”, that is, in all places.

“Red Bull was already efficient last year. Baku and Miami will be circuits where efficiency is very important, but later circuits with low efficiency such as Monaco or Barcelona. The first three World Cup circuits are not typical throughout the year. Now we have a lot of grands prix on high-efficiency tracks, but throughout the year we will have more low-efficiency events and we have designed the car for the whole season,” Tom details.

Baku is the next appointment of the championship. There Aston Martin will be re-evaluated. And the mission is not easy. Because the rivals press. Mercedes has already done it (second place for lewis hamilton in Australia) and Ferrari is expected to appear sooner or later. That “advantage” they talk about must be exploited to the end.
