The creator of ‘Elite’ Carlos Montero is inspired by public health for ‘Respira’, the new Netflix hospital drama

The medical series of recent years have been set outside our country and since ‘Red Bracelets’, ‘Central Hospital’ or ‘Family Doctor’ there have been almost no national medical dramasexcept for a few lesser-known titles. Carlos Montero (‘Elite’, ‘The disorder you leave’) intends to fill that void with ‘Respira‘, his new series for Netflix that according to him “arrives at the perfect time.”

Najwa Nimi, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Blanca Suárez and Manu Ríos lead the cast of this series that seeks to “defend the almost heroic work of our toilets, to recount their dedication, their frustrations, their joys and to know that despite everything they continue to watching over us.”

According to the synopsis, the new series by Montero follows Biel, one of the residents who leaves his skin in a public hospital. Hundreds of watches, thousands of hours, barely leaving him time for his life. But it’s his calling and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to become the best doctor. What he does not imagine is that A total strike is going to break out in the hospital, without minimum services. The toilets are forced to do so to try to make the population aware of their essential work and to protest all the intolerable cuts that public health is suffering. But Biel and the other residents They do not know whether to support this strike that can have fatal consequences for patients. And from that conflict we will get to know each other in their day to day. Who are those young boys who go out of their way in the hospital assuming excessive responsibility and who are those adults willing to lose everything to fight for what they believe in?

As can be seen from the description of the series that has started its preparation, ‘Respira’ is inspired by recent events affecting public health service professionals In our country. The cuts, the lack of personnel and the attempts to dismantle public health have led doctors to defend their work with protests and strikes to achieve a minimal improvement in their conditions.
