Fernando Alonso has been third in Bahrain, in Saudi Arabia and in Australia. Great results with Aston Martin, that without any doubt has become the surprise team in Formula 1.
In Baku, this weekend, the Asturian pilot will look for the fourth. A crucial appointment for the future because his car is both his and his Lance Strollhis teammate, will debut a new rear wing to increase speed and compete against the Red Bulls.
There is a very curious fact about the drivers who have been on the podium in the first four races of the year. All of them have finished in the world championship as champion or runner-up. Almost nothing.
Those are the cases of Emerson Fittipaldi, Alain Prost, Ayrston Senna… and more recently with Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel or the current champion Max Verstappen.
The two years in which he was F1 champion with Renault (in 2005 and 2006), Alonso also started the world championship with four consecutive podiums.
Alonso’s analysis
The Spaniard is optimistic for the Baku track: “In the slow curve we are going well and here there are slow curves… I am optimistic”. And remember that rear wing that the Aston Martins will debut.
“Here we don’t have much more news than the new low load rear wing. You have to find a good balance, but above all have speed on the straights,” explains the two-time F1 champion.
