A few years ago, representation sedans were stately vehicles that sought aesthetic distinction, the highest interior quality and unmatched driving comfort. Traditionally they used diesel engines, but the times change. Now it seeks to keep those values in electrical format. And sometimes with an extra spice. The perfect example to represent it is the BMW i7 M70 xDrive that has just been presented and that is positioned as the top of the range of the electric saloon.
It should not be forgotten that the BMW i7 is a derivative of the traditional 7 Series that is only available with a electric propulsion system. Its top of the range reinforces this aspect, as it has two electric motors, located one on each axis to achieve all-wheel drive. The front has 190 kW and the rear is the most powerful electric block of the brand with its 360 kW. That makes the i7 M70 xDrive achieve a total power of 660 hp and 1,100 Nm of torquefigures that put it at the level of authentic sports cars.
That power level is unlocked when the M Launch Control system and the M Sport Boost function are activated. The first is for starting from a standstill with maximum traction and the second to display its power. Under these conditions, it accelerates 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and its top speed is limited to 250 km/h. Nor can it go unnoticed that its lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 101.7 kWh, so its autonomy is not far behind. Approves between 488 and 560 kilometers per charge, depending on whether Max Range mode is engaged.
The good thing about this model is that it has a specific set-up to give it the M character. The running gear has been modified and it has a adaptive air suspension two-axle with automatic self-levelling and electronically regulated shock absorbers. As standard it also brings the M sports brake system and 21-inch wheels. In fact, the BMW i7 M70 xDrive stands out from the rest of the models in the range for its highly elaborated aesthetics with the M Performance package and specific bumpers.
Its interior is not far behind either, neither for sportsmanship nor for technology. All the elements bear the letter M of the sporty signature, with illuminated trims on the doors, Merino leather upholstery, sports steering wheel or specific indicators on the screen. The technological part is provided by details such as the Theater Screen for the rear seats or the Bowers & Wilkins sound system. A top-of-the-range version that lives up to the circumstances that will have a price within the reach of few pockets.
