the Frenchman explains what he has learned from the two-time F1 champion

“It’s good that Fernando Alonso is going to Aston Martin, I did 98% of the work“: thus, openly, he has spoken Esteban Ocon of the double world champion of Formula 1 once the season is over.

The Frenchman, in statements published by ‘Nextgen-Auto’, does not cover up when he shows his happiness at beating the Asturian.

“Yes, It is a satisfaction to finish ahead of Fernando at the end of the year, a legend like him and a two-time world champion,” he explains.

Of course, he recognizes that these two years have been continuous learning from Fernando’s hand… although he does not leave a point without a thread and affirms that he hopes that Alonso has also learned from him.

“It made me progress because you always learn from a partner, and I hope he has learned too“he points out.

At the same time, the Frenchman has highlighted a key element in Alonso: the strategy and how he reads the races.

“There are many aspects of the competition in which he is very strong, in strategy, in understanding the race, what he must do, he is a guy who is very alert and too fast in his head“, he pointed out.

“It made me discover many things that I will keep later. But that was the case when I worked with Daniel [Ricciardo] or Sergio [Pérez]. I wish Aston Martin all the best and I hope we keep fighting on the track“, has added.

Of course, Alonso’s goodbye and his departure to Aston Martin will not give him a greater role in Alpine: “There is no extra space. Everyone says that Fernando takes up a lot of space, Fernando this, Fernando thatbut I have my place as he had, to develop the car, for the set-up, I do what I have to do with my team.”

“I will continue with the work that I did this year and that it worked because i ended up ahead of him in the championship, so I will continue in this direction and I will help the team as much as possible for the future.”
