The future of Audi RS is more than assured with electrification

There have always been many doubts about the future of the pure sports car. It is a complicated question, since the emission regulations narrow around the most polluting combustion vehicles and, at the same time, there is a lot of debate about whether electric ones can be really sporty. Now it seems almost certain that we will have to get used to performance versions of cars in that key. In fact, we could say that the future of Audi RS is more than assured with electrification.

This is what can be extracted from a recent interview with Sebastian Grams, director of Audi Sport. He began by talking about the expiration date that combustion has for them. He did not hesitate to say that for him 2030 all your cars will be electrified, so those who are about to come out will be the last purists. However, the conversion will be gradual. Well, there will also be high-performance plug-in hybrids that will be halfway between combustion and mura electricity.

However, the most worrying issue in this transformation is the weight gain that comes with the addition of electric powertrains and batteries. He gave as an example the distribution of those weights in the Audi RS e-tron GT and that they still have a lot to learn on the way to improve performance. What there is no doubt about is the acceptance that crossovers have in the brand with the four rings and in the rest. Thus, Grams also made it clear that there will be more Audi RS SUVs with electrification. They do not pretend that there are all the bodies, but the number will increase.

Speaking of sportsmanship, it was impossible not to treat the future of its most passionate models. On the successor to the Audi R8, he said that they were looking for options to make something that would be up to the task and stick to current needs. About the iconic Audi TT he also did not give significant details beyond praising the farewell edition. He ended up talking about its irruption in Formula 1 and how they could gain visibility and some experience thanks to this competition, which will not take budget away from production vehicles.
