How far is that day when Fernando Alonso debuted in Formula 1. That March 4, 2001 of which, oddly enough, It’s been almost 22 years. Now, the Asturian, with 41 springs, is going to get on to the aston martin in Bahrain to break a record that who knows if anyone else in F1 can beat.
Because the two-time world champion, as soon as I participate in the Bahrain GP, will be the pilot with more seasons played in the entire history of Formula 1.
A total of 20 will add up, surpassing in such a way pilots like Rubens Barrichello, Kimi Raikkonen and the legendary Michael Schumacher. the three stayed in 19 seasons.
Hamilton, the only one who could with him in the short term
Behind them are names like Graham Hill and Jenson Button, with 18, and below we have Ricardo Patrese and Lewis Hamilton, with 17. The British Mercedes is still active, and he does not seem to have any intention of getting out of the car in the near future either.
It should be noted in the case of Fernando Alonso, and also in that of Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen, that the three took time off from the ‘Great Circus’.
Alonso’s ‘see you later’ lasted two seasons
The Asturian, for example, did not compete in 2019 and 2020 after a period hard to forget with the McLaren-Honda. The arrival of Renault as a driver for the Woking team did not change the situation much.
With the rule change, Alonso then saw the option of returning and he did so in 2021, but COVID delayed the entire season. Came back in Alpine, team that looked like more concerned about his age than for his performance on the track.
For this reason, he decided to take the bull by the horns and set course for Aston Martin, where he will start a project that will keep him in the British team with a multi-year contract.
Who knows what will happen to Fernando in this new project, but there are many who see to the team in full growth, among them Antonio Lobato.
